Southerly flow off the water redevelops and the Gulf of Maine Marine flow pushes inland. Given the moist airmass expecting patchy fog to develop across the Highlands into Northern areas with winds becoming calm. Expect the 500mb trough to slide overhead tonight with increased chances of showers mainly isolated to scattered in nature. Expect highs to top out in the upper 60s to low 70s for much of the area with far western areas perhaps reach 73-75F thanks to warmer 850mb temps. Today will feature a lot of clouds and NE winds thanks to the low track so actually a cool maritime air damming situation. Steady rain will come to an end but expecting some dry hours before more isolated to scattered showers develop with the 500mb trough approaching. There remains the overall 500mb trough to our west that will slowly approach from the west today. Low pressure this morning will track into New Brunswick as the 500mb shortwave lifts northeast. Patchy to areas of fog are expected this morning which may reduce visibility at times along with low stratus. Thankfully rain has come to an end in these locations but additional showers are possible. Rainfall totals have exceeded 2 inches in some portions of the Downeast coast like Southwest Harbor & Bar Harbor.

This will allow for a decent soaking rain in these areas over the next hour or two.

There is an additional area of light to moderate rain that has slowed down and pivoting slowly over Somerset and Piscataquis county. Dry air has sneaked into the area and tapering some of the steady rain to showers especially in Hancock county. Light to moderate rain shield is pushing northeast of the low but seeing some remaining pockets of heavy rain Downeast. Low pressure is tracking up along the Downeast coast this morning. In general, the forecast appears on track.
